GIPMEL: Aims and Board

Aims/Objectives

Our journal publishes papers on themes concerning occupational health and environment, industrial hygiene, occupational therapy and occupational health psychology, the latter with a particular focus on work-related stress, work engagement, burnout syndrome, and occupational psychosocial risks. The main aims of occupational health physicians and occupational psychologists are to prevent the onset of occupational diseases and work-related disorders and to promote the workers’ physical and mental well-being. For this reason, our journal aims to encourage research and culture with involvement from these two critical occupational stakeholders in a collaborative and interdisciplinary way. Interdisciplinary research is particularly suitable for analyzing complex problems that can only be understood by combining different perspectives from two or more disciplines. We welcome the experiences of occupational practitioners through commentaries, interviews, editorials and normative updates. Furthermore, we accept original research, especially field research in the workplace setting, and reviews (narrative and systematic reviews, meta-analyses) for improving evidence-based in our discipline.

The Italian Journal of Psychology and Occupational Health: A new, interdisciplinary, open access journal for innovative cooperation between psychologists and occupational physicians

Dear Readers:

We are proud and honored to launch the inaugural issue of the Italian Journal of Psychology and Occupational Health (GIPMEL), the official journal of the first Italian association of psychologists and occupational practitioners, the Italian Association of Psychology and Occupational Health (AIPMEL).

GIPMEL’s aim is to offer a forum for an interdisciplinary exchange between occupational psychologists and occupational physicians. We believe that our professions can grow through the collaboration and exchange of scientific knowledge and professional experiences.

Therefore, the journal aims to promote research and culture with involvement from these two key occupational stakeholders in a collaborative and interdisciplinary way. Interdisciplinary research is particularly suitable for analyzing complex problems that can only be understood by combining different perspectives from two or more disciplines [1].

We believe that cooperation between psychologists and occupational health practitioners is crucial for preventing occupational disorders and promoting workers’ health, defined by the Italian Health and Safety Regulation as a “complete state of physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity”, which concurs with the WHO’s health definition [2, 3].

Our scientific journal accepts high-quality contributions, in both Italian and English, such as original research, reviews, case reports, commentaries, and letters to the editors. In the section “Tales about Our Profession,” we will publish submissions by readers who describe their professional experiences in autobiographical style. In the section “Open Questions,” we will publish critical and relevant pieces concerning our professions.

In the best interests of the medical and scientific community, GIPMEL will be freely accessible via the internet for immediate, worldwide, complete open access to articles’ full text. GIPMEL applies the Creative Commons Attribution License (Creative Commons BY 4), under which anyone will be free to copy, distribute, and display GIPMEL’s work. As such, all readers will be able to download and/or print any article at no cost. Furthermore, subscription fees and article processing charges (APC) will not apply for authors. Equally important, authors who publish in the journal will retain their article’s copyright [4].

Therefore, our journal follows the so-called “Diamond Open Access” model, which is intended to facilitate the widespread dissemination of academic knowledge among readers [5, 6].

Topics of interest to the journal include all themes related to occupational medicine and occupational health psychology. Manuscripts will be accepted upon completion of high-quality editorial and external peer reviews.

For me, working on this editorial project is a great honor, especially with the aim to involve our readers. Their active participation will help us grow and earn a strong position in the field’s international arena of scientific journals.

I thank Edizioni FS publisher and all members of the editorial and scientific committees, who offered their support and enthusiasm for launching this new journal. Specifically, I wish to thank Dr. Giuseppe Ferrari (Co-Founder of AIPMEL and GIPMEL and owner of Edizioni FS) and Dr. Angelo Sacco (Editorial Chief), who decided to help me in this difficult though exciting journey.
